The purpose of the planning bulletin is to provide advice and guidance on matters that should be taken into account in the rezoning, subdivision and development of land that contains acid sulfate soils.
This planning bulletin introduces a set of revised Acid Sulfate Soils Planning Guidelines.
The guidelines outline the range of matters which need to be addressed at various stages of the planning process to ensure that the subdivision and development of land containing acid sulfate soils is planned and managed to avoid potential adverse impacts on the natural and built environment.
The bulletin supersedes Planning Bulletin 64 Acid Sulfate Soils (November 2003), and the planning guidelines and risk maps appended to it.
It should be noted that the planning guidelines no longer contain a set of WAPC-prepared risk maps. Instead, they reference the centralised risk mapping freely available online at both the Department of Environment and Conservation’s (DEC) website, and on Landgate’s website:
- Click here to access the DEC’s acid sulfate soils risk maps.
- Click here to access Landgate's acid sulfate soils risk maps using the shared land information platform’s WA atlas map viewer.
- Click here to access Landgate's acid sulfate soils risk maps using the interest enquiry service available through MyLandgate.
If you have any difficulty accessing the risk maps using the links above, please contact the relevant DEC (08 6467 5000) or Landgate (08 9273 7341) website manager for assistance.
In addition, the DEC has prepared an acid sulfate soils guidelines series to assist agencies, developers and individuals to manage development in areas where acid sulfate soils may or will be impacted. Copies of these documents can be obtained by clicking here.
