A draft management strategy for the Moresby Range has been prepared by the WAPC, in partnership with the City of Geraldton-Greenough and the shires of Northampton and Chapman Valley.

The Moresby Range is a prominent feature in the Geraldton region and the broader northern agricultural region. For the protection and enhancement of the range, future development and land management activities need to be based on a sound planning framework.

Strategic planning provides a framework for coordinated action by governments, business and the community to achieve economic, social and environmental objectives. Through strategic planning, competing interests can be reconciled, and development can contribute to the value of natural and cultural assets.

The Moresby Range Management Strategy has been developed to protect and enhance the values of the range and guide future development and land management activities. The strategy reflects community values without placing unreasonable expectations or restrictions on existing and future landowners.

The strategy will guide state and local government agencies in land use planning decisions, developing local policy, and ensuring consistent and effective management of future land uses and development in the Moresby Range.

Engagement of the community is fundamental to ensuring good quality planning outcomes. If you have an interest in the future of the area I encourage you to read the draft strategy and make a submission.

Comments need to be received by Tuesday 20 January 2009. Comments received will be used to further refine and improve the strategy.
