The WAPC today released regional hotspots reports for the Kimberley towns of Broome, Derby, Kununurra, Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek; Pilbara towns of Karratha, Newman, Onslow and Port Hedland; and Exmouth in the Gascoyne.

The reports give a snapshot of how these towns could potentially grow over the next five years.

Western Australia’s strong economic growth is fuelling greater demand for land and infrastructure in regional cities and towns across the State. The reports focus on centres currently experiencing high growth coupled with land and housing supply pressures and provide relevant information in a succinct and timely manner.

The reports provide information on:

• major resource projections committed or under consideration in the region
• population data and projections (both ABS and WAPC)
• recent land development activity
• future land supply, including identification of tenure, zoning and major development constraints
• challenges to land release and housing supply
• regional/local initiatives currently being undertaken in the region.

Previously the WAPC has produced the Country Land Development Program which formed an important part of the state’s commitment to land use planning and the coordination of services and infrastructure provision. This year the WAPC and LandCorp have joined forces to report on major regional hotspot towns.
