The WAPC has finalised a management strategy to guide future development and land management activities in the Moresby Range.

WAPC Chairman Gary Prattley said the Moresby Range is a prominent feature in the Geraldton region and the broader northern agricultural region.

"The Moresby Range Management Strategy provides a sound long-term planning framework for future development and land management activities," Mr Prattley said.

"The strategy ensures the protection and enhancement of the range which is in line with community views and expectations.

"Advertised from October 2008 to January 2009 the draft strategy attracted submissions from landowners, community groups, planning consultancies and government agencies.

"Based on this feedback, changes made to the strategy include greater direction on the issue of wind farms, more information on the geology of the ranges, and a greater emphasis on the value of priority agricultural land".

The Moresby Range Management Strategy will guide state and local government agencies in land use planning decisions, developing local policy, and ensuring consistent and effective management of future land uses and development in the Moresby Range.

"The success of this planning framework will rely heavily on the on-going commitment by state and local governments, the private sector, landowners and the general public to cooperatively progress the framework's recommendations and initiatives," Mr Prattley said.
