State Planning Policy 3.1 was amended on Monday 22 November 2010, to include additional multiple dwelling provisions in the R-Codes Frequently Asked Questions (pdf .24kb).

The R-Codes file for download (pdf 600kb) is view only.

The purpose of the R-Codes is to provide a comprehensive basis for the control, through local government, of residential development throughout Western Australia. They are intended to cover all requirements for development control purposes and to minimise the need for local government to introduce separate planning policies concerning residential development. The R-Codes do not address the physical construction requirements or internal arrangements of buildings - these are matters are dealt with by the Building Codes of Australia.

As the codes are administered and applied by local government, all queries regarding the interpretation of provisions of the R-Codes should be directed to your relevant local government. Explanatory guidelines are also provided to explain the basis and operation of the R-Codes, to provide assistance in interpreting the provisions.

The Explanatory Guidelines file for download is view only.
