Bassendean Enquiry-by-Design Workshop Outcomes Report  (668.25 KB)

The workshop was conducted in November 2001 as part of the Building Better Train Stations program to enable community input and decision-making on the design of up-grade works for Bassendean station and its precinct.

An explicit link was made between the up-grade works and town centre revitalisation, with a focus on the ailing west end of Old Perth Road, which is currently a cul-de-sac. A range of non-binding design options for sites in the broader town centre was also prepared.

The workshop community group assessed the station design options using a triple bottom line approach to evaluation. The preferred option to create a new link road and rail level crossing was however, proven not viable on safety grounds. The second preference being investigated for implementation is to reopen Old Perth Road to traffic and enable pedestrian crossing of Guildford Road at a signalised lighted intersection. Access to the station would be via an overpass in the rail reserve.
