The Western Australian Planning Commission invites submissions on the draft Renewable Energy Planning Code and supporting Guidelines.
The Code and Guidelines set out a development application and assessment framework for renewable energy projects in Western Australia, with an initial focus on wind farms and flexibility to expand to other technologies such as solar farms and battery energy storage systems.
Once finalised and adopted through local planning schemes, the Code will establish consistent statewide standards for renewable energy projects, providing improved certainty and consistency for communities, industry and decision-makers. These standards aim to balance development needs with transparency and effective management of potential impacts, supporting Western Australia’s transition to clean energy.
Supporting documents outlining proposed amendments to the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 and Planning and Development (Significant Development) Regulations 2024 also form part of the information package to ensure communities, industry, local governments and other stakeholders have a complete understanding of proposed changes to the planning framework.
Submissions close on 10 April 2026. For more information and to make a submission, visit Have your say, WA!
